iPhone 20 specs and features: what is rumored inside

The internal rumors are a mix of solid Korean supply-chain reporting, technology Apple is only evaluating, and battery claims that fall apart when you look for a source. This page separates them.

Updated By the Apple Inventory Checker team

Rumor, not fact. Everything here is reporting and speculation. Apple has announced none of it. Each claim is rated by how good its sourcing is.

A pattern worth noticing: the more credible component rumors — the display, the stacked memory, the silicon anode — come from ETNews, the Korean trade paper that covers Samsung and LG's component businesses. The shakiest come from single social posts. Almost none come from inside Apple, which is normal a year out: component suppliers have to plan long before Apple's own teams finalize anything.

A21 chip

A21 chip on a second-generation 2nm process

Likely

With the iPhone 18 generation on A20, the anniversary models would be powered by A21, built on a second-generation 2nm process.

Apple's C3 modem

An Apple-designed modem (C3) in US flagship iPhones for the first time

Plausible

Apple is developing modems it hopes will outperform Qualcomm's on speed and AI by next year. The C2 in iPhone 18 Pro may only be used outside the US, so an Apple modem in the anniversary iPhone would be a first for Apple's premium devices in the US. Macworld's roundup specifically pegs it as a C3.

Memory: mobile HBM

Vertically stacked DRAM ("mobile HBM") for on-device AI

Plausible

Apple is rumored to be evaluating vertically stacked DRAM, often called mobile HBM, to raise memory bandwidth and boost on-device AI performance.

Our read: "Evaluating" is doing real work in that sentence. Evaluation is not a commitment to ship.

MacRumors: 2027 iPhones advanced AI memory tech ↗

Why it matters: running language models on the phone is limited less by raw compute than by how fast weights can be moved between memory and the chip. High-bandwidth memory attacks that bottleneck directly. It is also expensive, which feeds straight into the price discussion.

Battery: three claims, three very different ratings

Battery rumors are where iPhone 20 coverage is least reliable, so read the ratings carefully. The chemistry is credible. The capacity figure is not well sourced. The “double the battery life” headline has no real source at all.

A silicon-anode battery

Plausible

ETNews reports Apple is working toward a silicon-anode battery for the 2027 iPhone. A silicon anode stores more lithium ions per gram than today's graphite anodes, which means longer battery life without a physically bigger cell.

A 6,000mAh battery and reverse wireless charging

Shaky

A 6,000mAh figure has appeared in some rumors. The same report mentions reverse wireless charging, which would let the iPhone top up AirPods or an Apple Watch.

Our read: MacRumors' roundup attributes both claims to a single unnamed leaker. It is unclear whether the 6,000mAh figure comes from supply-chain information at all.

A "pure silicon" battery with roughly double the battery life

Shaky

The loudest battery claim in circulation. The silicon-anode chemistry itself is credibly reported (see above). The "roughly double" figure is not.

Our read: The doubling claim comes from YouTube coverage rather than any established supply-chain reporter. It deserves the most skepticism of anything on this page.

Apple's own stacked image sensor with LOFIC — up to 20 stops of dynamic range

Plausible

Apple is said to be developing its own stacked image sensor to replace the Sony sensors it has traditionally used, reportedly with a working prototype already. It uses LOFIC technology, which lets each pixel store varying amounts of light, for potentially up to 20 stops of dynamic range.

Our read: Sources agree on a LOFIC sensor but not on who makes it. The "fully Apple-designed, replaces Sony" version comes from Naver blogger yeux1122. Macworld instead describes a custom LOFIC sensor developed with Sony.

The rear camera plateau stays

Likely

Despite the glass redesign, the raised rear camera plateau is likely to remain, because the folded optics used for the telephoto lens need the space.

  • Supply-chain reports (Analysts & trade press)

For context, 20 stops is more than dedicated cinema cameras typically advertise. Treat it as a ceiling quoted for the sensor technology, not a promise about finished photos.

Specs FAQ

What chip will the iPhone 20 have?

The A21, built on a second-generation 2nm process. iPhone 18 Pro ships with the A20 Pro today, so A21 is simply the next chip in Apple's sequence.

Will the iPhone 20 use an Apple modem?

That is the expectation. Apple is developing modems it hopes will beat Qualcomm's on speed and AI. The C2 in iPhone 18 Pro may only be used outside the US, so an Apple modem in the anniversary iPhone would be a first for Apple's flagship phones in the US. Macworld's roundup identifies it as the C3.

What is a silicon-anode battery?

A lithium-ion battery that uses silicon in place of graphite for the anode. Silicon holds more lithium ions per gram, so the same physical cell stores more energy. ETNews reports Apple is working toward one for the 2027 iPhone.

Will the iPhone 20 have a 6,000mAh battery?

That number is thinly sourced. MacRumors attributes it to a single unnamed leaker, and it is unclear whether it comes from supply-chain information at all. We rate it shaky.

Will the iPhone 20 battery last twice as long?

There is no credible basis for that. The silicon-anode chemistry is credibly reported, but the "roughly double" battery life claim comes from YouTube coverage rather than any established supply-chain reporter.

What is LOFIC?

Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor. It gives each pixel on a camera sensor somewhere to put excess charge instead of clipping to white, which lets one exposure hold detail in both deep shadow and bright highlights. The rumored iPhone 20 sensor is said to reach up to 20 stops of dynamic range.

Will Apple stop using Sony camera sensors?

Sources disagree. Naver blogger yeux1122 says Apple is developing its own stacked sensor to replace Sony's and already has a working prototype. Macworld describes a custom LOFIC sensor developed with Sony instead.

Will the iPhone 20 have reverse wireless charging?

It appears in one report, alongside the 6,000mAh figure, and would let the iPhone top up AirPods or an Apple Watch. The sourcing is weak, so we rate it shaky.
