iPhone 20 Pro Max: the larger anniversary iPhone

Two anniversary iPhones are coming, and the bigger one is attracting its own rumors — starting with a screen Apple may round up to seven inches. Here is what is specific to the larger model and what it shares with its sibling.

Rumor, not fact. Everything here is reporting and speculation. Apple has announced none of it. Each claim is rated by how good its sourcing is.

The "7-inch iPhone"

The larger model may be marketed as a 7-inch iPhone

Plausible

Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, as reported by AppleInsider, says the larger model uses a 6.96-inch panel that Apple will market as a 7-inch screen — which would be the largest display ever on an iPhone.

Our read: Smaller than it sounds: the iPhone 17 Pro Max was already 6.86 inches. Going to 6.96 is a tenth of an inch, mostly from slimmer bezels, not a meaningfully bigger phone.

AppleInsider: largest-ever iPhone screen at 7 inches ↗

It helps to put the numbers side by side. iPhone 17 Pro Max was 6.86 inches. iPhone 18 Pro Max is sold as 6.9. The rumored panel is 6.96. So the “largest iPhone screen ever” headline is true and also describes a change you would struggle to see with the two phones next to each other.

Where the extra screen comes from matters more than the figure. With glass that wraps around every edge and thinner bezels, Apple can grow the display without growing the phone. If the rumor holds, expect a body about the size of today's Pro Max with more of its face lit up.

Two models at roughly 6.3 and 6.9 inches

Likely

Two anniversary phones are expected, mirroring this year's iPhone 18 Pro (6.3-inch) and iPhone 18 Pro Max (6.9-inch).

  • Bloomberg (Strong track record)

Everything it shares with the smaller model

Nothing reported so far separates the two anniversary phones except size. The curved glass, the A21 chip, the display technology and the camera sensor rumors all describe both.

Price

A starting price of at least $1,299

Plausible

Nothing firm exists yet. Macworld expects "the starting price will likely be at least $1,299, if not more." That is Macworld's own estimate, not a leak.

A blended average selling price that could have reached $2,060

Plausible

Jefferies estimated the device's blended retail average selling price could have reached $2,060.

Our read: An average selling price is not a starting price. It blends every storage tier and both sizes, so it always sits well above the entry model — and it comes from the same note that called the phone cancelled.

MacRumors: all-glass iPhone reportedly canceled ↗

Today Apple sells iPhone 18 Pro Max from $1,299 — $100 above iPhone 18 Pro. Apply the same gap to Macworld's estimate and the larger anniversary model starts around $1,399. We flag that as arithmetic rather than a rumor because no source has reported it.

iPhone 20 Pro Max FAQ

Will there be an iPhone 20 Pro Max?

A larger anniversary model is well sourced: Bloomberg reports two phones, known internally as V73 and V74, mirroring today's Pro and Pro Max sizes. Whether Apple actually calls it "iPhone 20 Pro Max" is unknown. Apple has announced no names.

How big is the iPhone 20 Pro Max screen?

Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, reported by AppleInsider, says the panel measures 6.96 inches and that Apple will market it as 7 inches. That would be the largest iPhone display ever, but only about a tenth of an inch bigger than the 6.86-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max.

How much will the iPhone 20 Pro Max cost?

No price has leaked. Macworld estimates the anniversary line will start at $1,299 or more. Apple currently charges $100 more for the Pro Max than the Pro, so the larger model would plausibly start near $1,399 — but that is arithmetic, not reporting.

When is the iPhone 20 Pro Max coming out?

September 2027 is the expected window for both anniversary models, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Is there an iPhone 20 Ultra or iPhone 20 Plus?

No credible report describes either. The reporting points to exactly two anniversary models at Pro and Pro Max sizes. Apple's foldable, sold as iPhone Duo, is a separate product line with its own second generation due in 2027.

What is the difference between iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max?

So far, only size. Every design, chip, camera and display rumor applies to both models. If Apple follows its usual pattern the larger phone will also get a bigger battery, but nothing specific has been reported.
