iPhone 20 leaks and rumors: everything we know

Apple's 20th-anniversary iPhone is a year out and already the most-leaked phone in the pipeline. This is every credible claim so far — and a few that aren't — each one rated by how good its sourcing is.

Updated By the Apple Inventory Checker team

Rumor, not fact. Everything here is reporting and speculation. Apple has announced none of it. Each claim is rated by how good its sourcing is.

The short version

Apple has not announced an iPhone 20, and it has not said it will skip the iPhone 19 name. The “iPhone 20” circulating right now is an unofficial label for a 20th-anniversary handset expected in September 2027. The name comes from an analyst remark made in October 2025, and it stuck.

What is well sourced: two Pro-tier models, known inside Apple as V73 and V74, with glass that curves around every corner and edge. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman calls it the biggest overhaul to the Pro line since iPhone X. What is not settled: whether the front will be truly cutout-free, what it will be called, and what it will cost.

The "it's cancelled" scare

If you only read one thing before trusting an iPhone 20 headline, read this. In August 2026 a single analyst note knocked Apple's share price and produced a wave of “iPhone 20 cancelled” stories. A day later Bloomberg contradicted it.

Was the all-glass iPhone cancelled?

Disputed

On August 10, 2026, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee said the all-glass iPhone had been cancelled because of low manufacturing yield, calling it a "major setback" to Apple's push toward higher-priced iPhones. Apple's stock dropped on the note. One day later, Bloomberg reported that Apple is still planning a glass-centric overhaul for the 20th anniversary, directly countering it.

Our read: As MacRumors points out, it is unclear whether Lee was describing the end of the entire redesign or only its all-glass display component. Gurman's explanation, as MacRumors relays it, is that Lee was likely describing a more ambitious all-glass design that was scrapped early on. A genuinely seamless glass front may never have been realistic, while other elements such as the quad-curved chassis could still be on track.

Release date

September 2027, in Apple's normal fall window. The detail most coverage misses is that Apple now staggers its lineup, so the anniversary flagships and the cheaper phones of that generation will not arrive together.

Price

There is no price leak. There is an estimate and a widely misread analyst figure. iPhone 18 Pro already rose $100 this year to $1,199 on memory costs, which is the baseline any 2027 number has to start from.

How the story has developed

  1. Gurman: "curved glass around all corners and edges"

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman calls the anniversary iPhone the biggest overhaul to the Pro line since iPhone X, and lays out Apple's roadmap: iPhone 18 and 18e in spring 2027, iPhone Air 2, the 20th-anniversary Pro and Pro Max, and a second-generation foldable — then a third-generation foldable in 2028.

  2. Hole-punch renders surface — and look AI-generated

Yogesh Brar posts renders of the anniversary iPhone with a hole-punch selfie camera. Coverage flags a missing Camera Control and odd-looking buttons, consistent with generated imagery. The same day, Fixed Focus Digital says the curved glass will borrow iPhone Air's assembly process.

  3. Bloomberg: the glass redesign is still on

A day after the cancellation note, Bloomberg reports Apple's glass-centric 20th-anniversary iPhone remains on track for 2027. The same report describes glass on the front and back curving into the sides, a metal band in the middle, and two models known internally as V73 and V74.

How to read our ratings

Every claim carries one of four ratings based on who reported it and whether anyone credible disagrees. The colored dot beside each source shows its track-record tier. How we rate sources.

  • LikelyBacked by a top-tier source and not contradicted, or near-certain on engineering or naming grounds.
  • PlausibleCredibly reported, but single-sourced or from mid-tier sources. Could easily change before launch.
  • DisputedCredible sources actively disagree. We show both sides rather than pick one.
  • ShakyWeak sourcing, unclear origin, or contradicted by a stronger source.

iPhone 20 FAQ

Is there an iPhone 20?

Not yet. Apple has not announced an iPhone 20, and has not said it will skip the iPhone 19 name. "iPhone 20" is an unofficial label for the 20th-anniversary iPhone that analysts and reporters expect in 2027. The name traces to Omdia analyst Heo Moo-yeol in October 2025.

When is the iPhone 20 coming out?

The 20th-anniversary iPhone is expected in September 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Under Apple's new staggered release schedule, the more affordable models of that generation would follow in spring 2028.

What will the iPhone 20 look like?

Bloomberg reports curved glass around all corners and edges, thinner bezels, glass on both the front and back that curves into the sides, and a thin metal band around the middle. Gurman calls it the biggest overhaul to the Pro line since iPhone X. The raised rear camera plateau is expected to stay.

Was the iPhone 20 cancelled?

No credible report says the whole phone is cancelled. On August 10, 2026, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee said the all-glass iPhone was cancelled over low yield. One day later Bloomberg reported the glass-centric redesign remains on track for 2027. The likeliest reading is that an early, more ambitious all-glass concept was dropped while the curved-glass redesign continues.

Will the iPhone 20 have a notch or Dynamic Island?

Probably a smaller cutout rather than none. Display analyst Ross Young says under-display Face ID will not be ready for a 2027 iPhone and does not expect a fully notch-free iPhone until 2030. Leaked renders showing a single hole-punch camera appear to be AI-generated and should be treated with caution.

How much will the iPhone 20 cost?

Nothing firm exists. Macworld estimates a starting price of at least $1,299. A widely quoted $2,060 figure from Jefferies is a blended average selling price across all models and storage tiers, not a starting price. For reference, iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 today.

Will Apple skip the iPhone 19?

Possibly. Apple skipped iPhone 9 before the iPhone X in 2017, and the same is rumored for 2027. But reports also say an iPhone 19 exists inside Apple on a base A21 chip, so a split launch — like iPhone 8 alongside iPhone X — is also possible.

What chip will the iPhone 20 have?

The A21, built on a second-generation 2nm process. iPhone 18 Pro uses the A20 Pro today, so A21 is the next step in Apple's sequence.

Should I wait for the iPhone 20?

Only if you are happy to wait about a year for a first-generation redesign that will likely cost more. If you need a phone now, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are Apple's current flagships and are on sale today.
